Week 14
Marlborough B have retained their firm grip on Division 1 of the Didcot and District Table Tennis Association. A Martin Haycock treble inspired them to a 6-4 win over Drayton A to open up a lead at the top. Drayton A remain in contention following a 7-3 victory over Moreton A despite Joe Cheong’s treble for the Moreton side. RAL A remain in third spot after a 9-1 thrashing of relegation threatened RAL C. Meanwhile, Letcombe A enjoyed a mixed week after a 6-4 defeat to Anders Markvardsen and RAL B was followed up by a 10-0 win over RAL C.
Drayton B look set for an immediate return from Division 2 after an 8-2 over Drayton C extended their lead. Sutton A also look set for promotion having overcome bottom club Howbery A 9-1. Abingdon C look to push for second place as a Chris Smith treble helped them to a straightforward 7-3 win over Abingdon B., who then secured an impressive 8-2 win over Drayton D with both Owen brazell and Brian Freeman securing trebles. Howbery B enjoyed a successful double with an 8-2 win over Moreton B being followed up by a 6-4 win over Abingdon C.
Sutton B still lead the way in Division 3 following an 8-2 win over Abingdon E. However, they were then held to a 5-5 draw by second placed Upton A. Abingdon E still look like joining the promotion race with an 8-2 victory over Marlborough D thanks to maximums from Mark Ghafoor and Ewan Shearer. Sutton C may also spoil the party after they easily beat Marlborough D 8-2 but a 5-5 draw with Moreton C put the brakes on their progress. Moreton C were then beaten 8-2 by an impressive Marlborough E, who were then held to a 5-5 draw by Letcombe B.
Division 4 has been all but clinched by a rampant Wallingford side. An 8-2 win over Letcombe C was followed up by a 9-1 mauling of Moreton D as the leaders moved well clear at the top. Abingdon F secured a 6-4 win over Letcombe D with John Tremayne hitting three wins.
Division 5 remains a tight affair, with leaders Grove going down 6-4 to third placed RAL G to allow Moreton E to take over at the top after a 9-1 win over Drayton H. RAL G also recorded a 6-4 win over Moreton E thanks to a treble from both Matt Chambers and Kevin Woodhouse. Drayton H recorded two 5-5 draws in a week as they were unable to get past either Abingdon H or Moreton F while Abingdon H followed their draw up with a 6-4 win over Drayron G with Simon Kearney hitting a hat trick.
