2009/2010 DDTTA Divisional Results

Division 1

Winner – Richard Taylor – Letcombe
Runner-up – Steve Dobbins - BR Didcot

Richard lost to Steve 2-3 in the group stages after being 2-0 up. However both reached the semi-finals and met the winner and runner up of group 2. Richard beat Tony Stead 3-2 in the first semi final and Steve beat Greg Donovan 3-1 in the second. In the final Richard again took a 2-0 lead aganst Steve but this time make no mistake to close out to win 3-1 and take the title.

Division 2

Winner – Markus Wagner – Howbery
Runner-up – Bill Mason – RAL

Markus was undefeated in the groups then went on the beat Mike Aistrop 3-0 in the quarter-final, then beat Brian Wyborn 3-0 in the semi. Bill was also undefeated in the group stage and then beat Stuart Walker 3-0 in the quarter-final and then John Gould 3-0 in the semi. Markus beat Bill 11-7, 11-5, 7-11, 11-7 to win the final.

Division 3

Winner – Charlie Lane – Moreton
Runner-up – Renato Turchetta - RAL

Charlie only progressed into the semi-final via count back after he and two other players (Renato Turchetta and Ron Wright) in his group won 2 and lost 1. He was within one game of being knocked out after losing to Ron Wright from BR Didcot in the groups. However this was his only blip of the evening as he beat Kevin Davies 3-0 in the semi and Renato 3-0 in the final.

Division 4

Winner – Lucian Danaila – Sutton
Runner-up – Paul Rushton – Moreton

The format used was a single group of 6 players who all played each other to determine the champion. After all the games bar one were played, two players remained unbeaten. They were Paul Rushton and Lucian Danaila. So match 15, the final match of the evening, saw the two meet for the first time. Lucian reversed an earlier league defeat against Paul by beating him 11-5, 11-8, 11-6 to take the title.

Division 5

Winner – Billy Priestley – Abingdon
Runner-up – Joe Wilson – Moreton

The format for the competition was 2 groups of 5 players, with the winner and runner-up progressing to the semi-final. In group 1 the winner was decided on count back with 3 players (Frank Widdonson-Ilett, Ryan Seamark and Billy Priestley) all finishing with 3 wins and 1 loss. Frank missed out on a semi-final place by the narrowest of margins. The second group was much clearer as Joe Wilson won all his 4 matches and James Cox 3 from 4. The first semi-final saw Joe Wilson beat Ryan Seamark 3-0 and the second saw Billy beat James Cox 3-2. The final between Billy and Joe was won by Billy 11-1, 12-10, 11-6.
